Southeastern Home of the

American Quilter Society

In January 2009 Members of the Georgia Quilt Council chose the City of Carrollton for the site of the Southeastern Home of the American Quilter's Society. The Georgia Society is a large organization dedicated to the preservation and education of quilts and quilt making. Members of West Georgia Quilt Guild met with the quilt council a number of times to consider Carrollton  for the museum. Recently, the City of Carrollton became interested in having this group establish the quilt museum in conjunction with a textile museum. Combined with the forthcoming restoration of the Historic Carrollton Depot which was used to ship cotton and the Cotton Producers Association/Gold Kist warehouse, an entire textile museum district is possible. Carrollton and Carroll County were once one of the largest cotton producing counties in the Southeastern United States in the mid-1900's.
